Once again the readers of Rochester Magazine have voted for their favorites.  The Redwood Room was voted 2007:

Most Romantic

More marriage proposals have occurred at The Redwood Room than at all the other Creative Cuisine Company restaurants, including sister restaurants Broadstreet Café, City Café, and Newt's. Redwood Room staff have hidden engagement rings in desserts and glasses of champagne. (There was one close call when a ring was almost lost). Several times happy applause has broken out among other diners witnessing a romantic moment. Why the magic? Could be the candle-lit tables, the classic brick, basement motif, or the understated live music. Or the cocktails.  Rochester Post Bulletin, 2/2007

Best Late Night Dining

Stairs from the street entrance take you down into the lower level of the old grocery warehouse-turned bistro/coffeehouse. Here—over a Scotch or an American brewpub beer or an Irish coffee—you can sit at one of the cozy tables and bask in the wainscoting-and-wood furniture decor while (on most nights) listening to live jazz or blues. It is, in a word, sophisticated. And, for Rochester, open late. Redwood is open until 10 p.m. on Sunday, 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until midnight on Friday and Saturday.  Rochester Post Bulletin, 2/2007

Best Live Music

Every night of the week, a musician or two will be stationed in the corner of the Redwood Room, skillfully serenading diners with a range of tunes from jazz to acoustical to folk to blues. Many musical acts are local—including several moonlighting docs—but musicians also come from the Twin Cities and Illinois. "Our customers like to curl up around a table and listen. But the music is never so loud or obtrusive that it cuts into conversation while dining," says manager Mark Currie.  Rochester Post Bulletin, 2/2007

Redwood Room Sponsors “Festival of Trees”

Hiawatha Homes provides residential, in-home, and community-based choices for people with disabilities.  Every year, Hiawatha Homes Foundation’s the Festival of Trees: Celebration of Giving is a treasured holiday event anticipated each year by children, adults, and families in southern Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin.  It is Hiawatha Homes’ biggest fundraiser, with over 100 trees sponsored and designed by area businesses and individuals.  The five day long event includes senior day, children’s day, family day, and the opening gala, where the trees are auctioned off. For more information on the Festival of Trees, go to http://www.hiawathahomes.com/festival/index.htm

This year, the Redwood Room of Creative Cuisine Company sponsored a tree AND designed it.  The theme of the tree is “Sangiovese is Coming to Town.”  The designers strung wine corks and cranberries for garland, and tied on Redwood Room Sangiovese Bottles and real wine glasses.  They also incorporated artisan breads, real corkscrews, crystal grapes, holly berries, and more.  Under the tree, there is a wooden crate displaying Redwood Room Sangiovese bottles, baskets filled with more corks, artisan breads, cheese boxes, and pinecones.  The Redwood Room tree brought in over $1050.00 for Hiawatha Homes Foundation.    A huge heart felt thanks goes to the main designers Jamie Kouba from the City Market, and Becca Dyer from the Broadstreet Café for their many hours of work and creativity.     Children got involved in the creation of the tree as well;  Audrey (10), Frankie (8), and Tessa (6) Villeneuve helped their mother, Denise, with the stringing of the corks and cranberries.  Additional thanks goes to the staff of the Broadstreet Café, the Redwood Room, and City Café for saving the 1000 plus corks it took to make the garland.
